Rabbi/Pastor emeritus Nathaniel Puro

Elder Emeriti

Ned and Sue Puro

Nathaniel (Ned) Puro was raised in a Reform Jewish home in Scarsdale, N.Y. At the age of eighteen, through the testimony of a Christian housekeeper, Ned came to know Yeshua as Messiah and L-rd. Via a long and winding path, (no doubtingly provided by G-d Himself), Ned found himself in Pittsburgh as a new believer. In pursuing knowledge of Yeshua, Ned attended and graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute. While attending Word of Life, Ned met his bride and partner in ministry and life, Susan. They have been married since 1980. Ned and Sue are parents to their daughter Tara and her husband John, and are now grandparents of one, Ariella.

Ned has been involved in the Messianic Movement since 1989 and has served as a shamash (deacon) and then elder at Shoresh David Messianic Congregation from shortly after its inception. From 2004 until 2019, Ned served as the congregational leader of Shoresh David. Now as rabbi emeritus, Ned has continued studies as he branches out into other ministry opportunities. Courses he has taken include those at Messiah Biblical Institute, The King’s University, SMT School of Messianic Theology, among others.

Ned’s life message is “The salvation of Israel for the sake of the world.” He teaches passionately on:

  • To the Jew first
  • The Call of Israel
  • The Parting of the Ways
  • Israelology – the Biblical Relationship Between Israel and the Church
