Faithfulness---The Believer’s claim to fame

Now when the queen of Sheba heard about all the fame of Solomon….. (I Kings 10:1)

My devotional reading this morning (above) coupled with a recent article I saw containing the familiar phrase “claim to fame” caused me to evaluate my own claim (if any) to fame. Solomon’s claim in the world was his great wisdom. Sheba, queen of the Sabeans in the southern part of Arabia, traveled some 1,200 miles to visit King Solomon because his fame went out to every part of the globe.

It’s easy to get caught up in leaving one’s “mark” in history and feeling as if our lives are wasted if we don’t achieve something of distinction in life, small or great. We see those in the world receiving recognition for some achievement. Even in the community of faith our spiritual worth is often measured by our gifting, our passion, or some supernatural experience. I’m not bashing those things, but there’s something that we find across the pages of Scripture that transcends one’s mark in history, and yet it is a mark. It’s called faithfulness.

Faithfulness is what God requires of us every day---all year. Faithfulness can be defined as steadfastness, fidelity, and “stick-to-itiveness.” It is the greatest legacy we can leave and the ultimate evidence of our relationship with God and our Savior, Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah. Let your faithfulness be your “claim to fame” this day, this year, and forever. As we enter this new (secular) year let’s purpose to be faithful sons and daughters of the King of Kings. What has the Lord been speaking to you lately? Well, get to it through His power!
Dear chavurim, may the Lord bless you richly as you enter the New Year and may He supply you with all you need to follow Him wholeheartedly.

Shalom & blessings, Ned and Sue
